ACNE/ROACCUTANE TREATMENT

We are delighted to introduce our new acne treatment service.

Acne is a common skin condition and can affect people of all ages. For some it can be a debilitating condition and can make people very unhappy in their skin. At Avenue GP, we offer Roaccutane (Isotretinoin) Acne Treatment to help you achieve clearer, healthier skin and restore your confidence. Roaccutane, also known as isotretinoin, is a highly effective medication used to treat severe or persistent acne that has not improved with standard treatments such as antibiotics.

How it works:

  • Reduces oil (sebum) production in the skin
  • Prevents blocked pores
  • Decreases acne-causing bacteria
  • Reduces inflammation and redness

Common side effects: Dry lips, dry skin, nose or eye irritation, muscle aches, temporary acne flare-ups, and increased sun sensitivity. We take all potential risks seriously, will ensure that you’re well informed throughout the treatment process, and will monitor you closely to identify any side effects and manage them effectively.

Monitoring: It will require an initial consultation to determine suitability and review visits for the duration of treatment. Review appointments are usually monthly to adjust doses, monitor and manage side effects, monitor blood results and to facilitate pregnancy testing for all patients capable of pregnancy. Treatment usually lasts 4-6 months.

Contraindications:  Roaccutane must not be taken in pregnancy, or if there is a significant risk of pregnancy. Blood donation by males and females on isotretinoin is not allowed in case the blood is used for a pregnant woman.

Will my acne return after treatment? In many cases, Isotretinoin provides long-lasting results, with the majority of patients experiencing permanent acne reduction. However, in some cases, a follow-up course or maintenance treatment may be required.

Cost:  Initial Appointment €220                   Review Appointment monthly €90
